Churchgate Mumbai

Churchgate area is a busy business area in downtown South Mumbai. The area is agog with numerous offices and banks; however the name now is popularly associated with Churchgate Railway Station that is a terminus of Western Railway line of Mumbai suburban railway or locals. As the starting point of numerous trains you can witness the conundrum of office goers - millions of them alighting each day at this station to get to their offices in the South Mumbai.

The name Churchgate owes its name to the 18th Century St. Thomas Church that is about half a kilometer away from the station and an ancient gate that once stood where today we have a flora fountain. Churchgate area is also very close to the Nariman Point, one of the most developed areas in Mumbai. The western area of Churchgate is the Marine Drive area, which is also known as 'Queen's Necklace'.

The Churchgate area is also a hub of educational institutions such as University of Mumbai, Jain Hind College, K.C. College, Government Law College and Indo-German Training Center. The area has also some of the high profile sport complexes such as Wankhede Cricket Stadium, Mahindra Hockey Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and Oval Maidan.
