The region of Navi Mumbai was mostly countryside when in 1970s the area came under the arc light of development when the City & Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) was formed to meet the infrastructural needs of the budding metropolis of Navi Mumbai. And thus dawned a new city that was developed as a series of nodes or small townships strung along with an efficient Mass Transport System in the form of Commuter Railway Network that connects to Mumbai.
